A South African woman, Racquel Chantel Smith, received a life sentence for selling her 6-year-old daughter, Joshlin. She was sentenced along with her boyfriend and a friend.
They were found guilty of human trafficking and received 10 extra years for kidnapping. Joshlin went missing in February 2024, leading to a nationwide search.
At first, Smith was considered a victim, but later, evidence showed that she confessed to selling her daughter for about $1,000 to a traditional healer for her body parts.
Joshlin is still missing, and the case has raised concerns about slavery and human trafficking.
