A South African woman, Racquel Chantel Smith, received a life sentence for selling her 6-year-old daughter, Joshlin. She was sentenced along with her boyfriend and a friend.

They were found guilty of human trafficking and received 10 extra years for kidnapping. Joshlin went missing in February 2024, leading to a nationwide search.
