The University of The Gambia (UTG) and UNICEF held a workshop to sign an agreement establishing the country’s first National Child Rights Centre, aimed at enhancing research, education, and advocacy for children’s welfare.

The event included representatives from various organizations and was marked by remarks on the transformative nature of the partnership. Nafisa Shafique from UNICEF highlighted the role of education in promoting child rights.

The initiative was launched on the Day of the African Child, coinciding with 60 years of The Gambia’s independence and UNICEF’s presence in the country.

Professor Adewale Adekeye from UTG emphasized the importance of integrating child rights education into the curriculum and urged action beyond just signing the agreement.
