Uganda has agreed to accept unsuccessful asylum seekers returned from the US as part of President Trump’s deportation strategy.

This places Uganda among a select group of nations collaborating with the US on migrant resettlement. Known for its progressive refugee policies, Uganda houses Africa’s largest refugee population, but it will not accept individuals with criminal records or unaccompanied minors.

Other countries like Rwanda and South Sudan have similar agreements, facing criticism from human rights organizations over potential humanitarian issues and breaches of international law for those being deported.
