The African Union Commission Congratulates the Democratic Republic of Congo and Liberia on Their Election to the United Nations Security Council

The AU congratulates DRC and Liberia on their 2026–2027 UN Security Council seats, praising democratic values and Africa’s rising role in global governance.

Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, congratulated the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Liberia on their election as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for the 2026-2027 term.

They will join Somalia in representing the African Group. He praised the democratic processes that led to their election and highlighted Africa’s important role in global peace and security.

Youssouf expressed confidence that the new members will lead in promoting African interests and working together internationally.

He also thanked the outgoing A3 members for their service and reaffirmed the Commission’s support for the new members in strengthening Africa’s role in global governance.
