Nigeria Sends a Special Envoy to President Barrow Ahead of the West Africa Economic Summit in Abuja

President Adama Barrow of The Gambia received an invitation from Nigeria’s Ambassador Ojukwu for the West Africa Economic Summit in Abuja, June 20-21, 2025, to enhance trade, integration, and peace, strengthening Gambia-Nigeria ties.

President Adama Barrow of The Gambia met with Ambassador Ojukwu, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

The ambassador delivered an invitation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for Barrow to attend the West Africa Economic Summit in Abuja on June 20-21, 2025.

The summit will focus on trade, regional integration, peace, security, and development in West Africa. Barrow thanked Nigeria for the invitation and praised its leadership in hosting the summit.

He highlighted the need to increase intra-African trade, which is currently below 20%. The meeting also underscored the strong relationship between The Gambia and Nigeria, especially Nigeria’s support in establishing The Gambia’s first University of Science, Engineering, and Technology.
