Mayor Talib Bensouda has strongly advised President Adama Barrow to refrain from making politically charged remarks about his opponents and instead prioritize addressing the pressing issues faced by the people of The Gambia.
In response to President Barrow’s verbal attack on UDP leader Ousainu Darboe during a rally in Brikama, Mayor Bensouda emphasized that the Gambian leader should concentrate on alleviating the widespread poverty and hardship experienced by many citizens rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric.
He pointed out the recent tragic incident where a boat carrying 300 young people fleeing the country’s challenges capsized, resulting in the feared loss of at least 150 lives. He also highlighted the concerning spread of a new harmful drug called ‘Kush,’ which is devastating the youth and communities. Additionally, Mayor Bensouda noted the unavailability of ID cards, driver’s licenses, and cash power meters in Nawec, as well as farmers’ worries about the rainy season’s impact on their crops and the fear of flooding among residents.
Mayor Bensouda expressed his strong disapproval of the president’s controversial statements, stating that they significantly undermine the country’s peace, harmony, and stability. He called for all politicians, religious leaders, and concerned citizens to join in condemning such remarks. “The content of the president’s speech is no laughing matter, it is not politics, and it should not be endorsed. Today is a somber day for The Gambia. We can and must strive for better!”
