The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has joined forces with the European Commission to sponsor a series of upcoming football tournaments in Africa, including the African Schools Football Championship and the Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for 2025 and 2027.

The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will take place in Morocco in July 2025, followed by the men’s tournament in December, both backed by TotalEnergies.

European Commissioner Jozef Síkela and CAF President Patrice Motsepe formalized this partnership in Cairo to promote youth football and strengthen the bonds between Europe and Africa.

This collaboration is a key component of the Global Gateway Africa-Europe Investment Package, through which the EU has committed to investing at least €150 billion in Africa by 2027, emphasizing energy transition and healthcare. The signing of this agreement coincides with the 25th anniversary of the inaugural EU-African Union summit held in Cairo in 2000.
