President Donald Trump met with leaders from Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal to discuss trade and business opportunities, emphasizing their valuable resources and potential for investment.

The meeting focused on economic development, security, infrastructure, and democracy, with Trump stating these countries are unlikely to face US tariffs.

There’s a plan for a larger summit with African leaders in September, addressing concerns over US neglect in favor of China’s growing influence.

During the lunch, leaders highlighted their need for investment in local raw material processing and tourism opportunities. The US International Development Finance Corporation announced funding for a potash mine in Gabon to bolster investment and reduce reliance on imports.

However, skepticism remains among African Union officials regarding US trade practices, citing tariff proposals and visa restrictions. Meanwhile, a shift in US foreign aid policy emphasizes partnerships over traditional aid models, raising concerns about potential health impacts in Africa.
