On July 11, 2025, Attorney General Dawda A. Jallow introduced the Judicial Officers (Conditions of Service) Bill, 2025.
This bill aims to set clear rules for the working conditions of judges, including their appointments, career duration, and retirement benefits.
It builds on a previous bill from September 2023 that did not pass, using feedback from lawmakers to improve it and strengthen the role of the Judicial Service Commission.
The bill aims to protect the independence of the judiciary and keep it free from political pressure.
It will be debated in the National Assembly later in 2025 for possible changes, showing a commitment to judicial independence during The Gambia’s transition.
