The Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) recently conducted its 2025 General Assembly elections, underscoring its commitment to democracy and unity within the African literary community.

A new Election Committee, chaired by Professor Cherno Omar Barry from The Gambia, facilitated the transition of leadership to Mr. Goima Peter Mwamwingila from Tanzania.

Nominations were sought for the roles of president, secretary general, and six vice presidents, although the position of Deputy Secretary General was suspended due to financial constraints.

Many positions featured only one candidate, leading to automatic elections for several key roles. These included Mr. Ashraf Aboul Yazid (Northern Africa), Prof. Egara Kabaji (Eastern Africa), Prof. Cherno Omar Barry (Western Africa), Mr. Carlos Paradona (Southern Africa), Mr. Eric Joel Bekale (Central Africa), Ms. Reyna Lineres Jones (Diaspora), and Dr. Wale Okediran, who was elected as Secretary General.
