During a meeting on 21-22 June with diplomats from Muslim countries, Gambia’s Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara condemned Israel’s strikes on Iran, calling them “provocative” and a violation of international law.
He highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, mainly affecting children, and reaffirmed Gambia’s support for Palestine.
The delegation praised Türkiye’s leadership in the OIC, supported Iraq’s offer to host the next session, and addressed the persecution of Muslim minorities, particularly the Rohingya.
They emphasized the need for financial contributions to the International Court of Justice case against Myanmar and acknowledged Kuwait’s support.
The summit’s theme, “The OIC in a Transforming World,” emphasized the need for reform to enhance the OIC’s effectiveness, with The Gambia pledging support for these efforts.
