The Network of Tax and Financial Reporters (NFTR) partnered with the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC) to train journalists on the Corporation’s services and digital initiatives.
The training, led by NFTR Gambia President Abdoulie Nyockeh, emphasized the importance of journalists understanding SSHFC regulations for accurate reporting on social protection.
Nyockeh encouraged engagement and interaction with SSHFC experts, advocating for improved media capacity in both public and private sectors.
Musa Sheriff, Editor-in-Chief of The Voice Newspaper, emphasized the importance of social security coverage and suggested dedicating columns to SSHFC, while critiquing the media’s tendency to prioritize politics over financial issues.
Alieu Ceesay, President of the Gambia Press Union, praised the training and the need for specialized financial reporting in a tax-based economy.
