Some Staff and students at the University of The Gambia (UTG) plan to initiate a strike starting Monday in response to the dismissal of two lecturers, Dr. Alieu Gibba and Prof. Matarr Njie. The administration terminated their contracts, citing allegations that they made unfounded claims damaging the university’s reputation.

The academic community perceives this action as an infringement on academic freedom and integrity. In a joint statement, they called for the reinstatement of the lecturers and announced a peaceful protest set to begin this week. This peaceful protest is intended to raise national awareness, representing a unified stance against what is seen as the university’s suppression of free expression.
