Court Denies Bail for Suspect in Samsung Phone Theft

Court-Denies-Bail-Suspect-Samsung-Phone-Theft

By Fatou Bojang

During a plea-taking hearing at the Bundung Magistrate Court, Pa Abdou Demba was charged with stealing two high-value mobile phones.

It is alleged that on November 4, 2024, within the Bundung High Court complex in the Kanifing municipality of the Republic of The Gambia, Demba stole a Samsung Fold 4 mobile phone valued at D50,000 and a Samsung S10 valued at D25,000, both belonging to Pap Manneh. During the proceedings, overseen by Your Worship Dibba, the charge sheet was presented to the accused, who pleaded not guilty.

Inspector General of Police, Inspector B Jarju, strongly opposed the granting of bail, citing the severity of the crime and the accused’s previous history of similar offenses, as noted in both this court and the Brusubi Magistrate Court. Despite the accused’s request for bail, Magistrate Dibba upheld the objection, stating, “Given that the alleged offense occurred within this court’s premises, I cannot grant bail.”

The case has been adjourned until December 19.
