Sonja Arup Has Been Appointed as the Deputy Chief Fire Officer of the Gambia Fire and Rescue Service

Sonja Arup, the first Western woman honored in The Gambia for her emergency services work, was awarded by Ministers Njie and Ceesay for raising €3 million and improving national emergency response through innovative local projects and training.

During a historic ceremony in The Gambia, Sonja Arup received a high honor in the emergency services from the Hon.

Minister for Defence Sering Modou Njie, and the Minister Chief of Staff, Mod K. Ceesay. She is the first Western woman to receive this distinction, which recognizes her work in emergency response and public safety.

The Minister praised her commitment and leadership over the past two years. She has raised over €3 million for emergency services.

Her efforts have greatly improved the national emergency response strategy, including local manufacturing projects and training programs for emergency personnel.

After receiving her title, Arup showed her dedication to The Gambia and its people. Many national and international officials attended the event, which highlighted the importance of unity and leadership across different backgrounds and genders.
