Akon City was envisioned as a high-tech, renewable energy-powered city funded by its cryptocurrency, with an estimated cost of $6 billion.

However, after nearly seven years, most of the land remains undeveloped, with only one unfinished building. The Senegalese government plans to reclaim the land for more practical use.

Akon has faced challenges in securing funding and legal issues related to the project. Additionally, in Uganda, authorities allocated 645 acres for a similar initiative, but residents refuse to leave the land, claiming they were not consulted about the plans.

Akon had said in 2018 that the Senegalese city would include a hospital, a shopping mall, a police station, and a school.
