Real De Banjul begins title defense with a win over Fortune FC

Real De Banjul

By Mustapha Jallow

The defending champions of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) First Division Real de Banjul have kicked off their title defense with a two-nil win over Fortune FC at the Live Your Dream Sports Academy, Basori, on Sunday.

Real goals came in both halves; fullback Mustapha Nyassi opened the score-line 7 minutes into the game, and Alasana Yirajang doubled the lead in the 78th-minute courtesy of Nyassi’s inch-perfect cross in the area. Yirajang went for a first-time volley that went past the Fortune keeper to score in his debut.

But last year, Second Division champions TMT FC launched their start to life in Gambia’s premier league with a win, defeating Marimoo Pakfood FC 2-1 on Saturday at the Goal Project field in Old Yundum. First-half goals from Alex Ndoye in the 10 minutes and Ebrima Jagne Narr (in the 28 minutes) were enough to give TMT the three points. Medou Manneh scored Marimoo’s lone goal to level the score line in the 12th minute, which wasn’t enough to sway the result in their favor after that.

Meanwhile, Greater Tomorrow FC beat Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) 2-1, while Steve Biko FC suffered a two-nil defeat at home to Team Rhino.
