Portugal has expressed support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara, calling it a “serious and credible” solution.

This endorsement from Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel aligns Portugal with other Western nations in backing Morocco’s claims.

The conflict dates to 1975, following Spain’s departure, with Morocco asserting control, while the Polisario Front seeks independence.

Portugal’s support may enhance Morocco’s efforts to achieve broader international recognition, although negotiations under the United Nations have not yet yielded a lasting political solution.
