Nigeria’s farmers face challenges due to climate change, resulting in reduced water availability for crops.

Nasiru Bello, a farmer in Sokoto state, notes the difficulties and high costs of well digging and operation.

With over 80% of farmers being smallholders, this scarcity significantly impacts food prices and availability.

The drastic shrinkage of water bodies like Lake Chad emphasizes a broader issue. Environmentalists warn that without urgent action, Nigeria may encounter a food, water, and health crisis as the population is expected to reach 400 million by 2050.

The U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization recommends climate-smart agricultural practices to improve food security.
