Gambia’s Judiciary Established a Reform Committee to Revamp the Land Dispute Resolution System

The Gambia Judiciary’s new committee, led by Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow, aims to enhance land dispute resolution by reviewing processes and proposing laws by December 2025, addressing public concerns over fairness and efficiency.

The Judiciary of The Gambia has established a new committee to review the handling of land disputes, aiming to improve resolution processes.

The first meeting was held on July 28, 2025, led by Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow, with involvement from key officials, including the Minister of Regional Government, Hamat N.K. Bah.

The committee, chaired by Hon. Justice B.V.P. Mahoney, consists of judges, legal officials, and representatives from the Gambia Bar Association and the Law Reform Commission.

It will evaluate the current dispute resolution system and submit findings and proposed laws by December 15, 2025.

This initiative responds to rising public concerns over unresolved land disputes and aims to foster a fairer and more efficient judicial process.
