The Brikama Area Council (BAC), under the leadership of Chairman Yankuba Darboe, has launched a new waste collection fleet that includes five garbage trucks, a skip bin loader, and a water tank to enhance waste management in the area.
Public Relations Officer Lamin Singhateh pointed out the crucial role of taxpayer contributions in financing this project. Chairman Darboe noted the council’s evolution from a state of financial difficulty to a more operational body, achieved through anti-corruption measures and increased transparency.
The new fleet is scheduled to start operations on August 18th, 2025, with waste collection taking place every two weeks at a rate of D20 per bag.
Darboe pledged to support youth programs and mentioned that D1.3 million in revenue has been generated through accountability initiatives, with a goal of D100 million by the end of the year.
