Banjul City Council is Reshuffling its Committee Structure and Operations  

Banjul Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe unveils committee changes on September 1, 2025, post-Local Government Inquiry, featuring expert appointments, a new Women’s Committee, and enhanced spending structures to drive professionalism and accountability in the council.

On September 1, 2025, Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe of Banjul City Council announced changes to council committees based on insights from the Local Government Commission of Inquiry.

Key to her main changes would involve:

– Appointment of subject-matter experts to all committees for improved governance.

– Abdoulie Boss Gaye remains chair of the Finance Committee, supported by a Ministry of Finance expert.

– Establishment of a new Women’s Committee, chaired by Bintou S.M. Jaiteh, with Bintou Sonko as an expert.

– Other committee chairs include Bai Essa Ngum (Religious Committee), Tunko Jammeh (Environment and ‘Mbalit’ Committee), and Abdoulie Krubally (Development Committee).

– Deputy Mayor Abdoulie Azize Gaye will chair the Establishment and Appointment Committee, with Latir Kah as an expert.

– A spending authority structure was established on July 10, 2025, while discussions on youth initiatives are ongoing.

Lowe emphasized that these changes aim to enhance professionalism and accountability within the council.
