Aviation Authority orders removal of grounded aircraft at Juba Airport

South Sudan’s Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) has ordered all operators at Juba International Airport to remove grounded, unserviceable, or abandoned aircraft from the airport within 30 days, citing safety and operational concerns.

In a circular issued Monday, Director General Dr. Ayiei Garang Deng Ayiei said aircraft parked on taxiways, runways, aprons, or other non-designated areas pose serious risks to airport safety, security, and efficiency.

“All aircraft operators with grounded or unserviceable aircraft at Juba International Airport are hereby directed to remove such aircraft within 30 days from the date of this circular,” the notice said.

Operators are instructed to coordinate recovery, towing, relocation, repair, export, or disposal with airport management and relevant authorities according to approved procedures.

The circular warned that failure to comply could lead to regulatory enforcement, including removal of aircraft at the operator’s expense.

The authority said the directive is in line with the Civil Aviation Authority Act of 2012 and international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

Officials said the move aims to maintain safe and efficient airport operations and prevent hazards posed by abandoned or unserviceable planes.
