Banjul-City-Council-Financial-Mismanagement

Abdoulie J. Corr, Internal Audit Manager of the Banjul City Council (BCC), testified before the Local Government Commission of Inquiry that he was offered a bribe of D750,000 to cease his investigation into financial mismanagement at BCC.

This offer was made during a meeting involving a senior Council official linked to upcoming local elections. Corr expressed concerns about improper payments and conflicts of interest related to the civil society group RAFAELA, highlighting issues with an EU-funded project, including unauthorized payments to unqualified vendors.

He noted intentional financial mismanagement, faced pressure to cease his inquiries, and ultimately resigned due to difficulties in obtaining the necessary financial records. The Commission accepted his documents as evidence.
