On October 15, 2025, the Resilience of Organizations for Transformative Small Holder Agriculture Project (ROOTS) held a Policy Dialogue in The Gambia focused on improving the marketing of locally grown onions.
The meeting aimed to enhance agricultural productivity and market access for smallholder farmers, addressing challenges faced by local producers and the economic impact of onion imports.
The Ministry of Agriculture highlighted agriculture’s role in improving livelihoods and commercialization. The dialogue’s objectives included reinforcing local onion marketing systems for the 2025/2026 dry season, reducing post-harvest losses, stabilizing prices, and increasing farmer incomes.
