The Auditor General, Modou Ceesay, claims his recent transfer to the Ministry of Trade is a tactic to remove him from his auditing responsibilities.

There was an attempted arrest by plainclothes police at his office on Monday September 15, but NAO staff intervened. Ceesay believes this undermines the independence of his office, essential for public accountability.

His reassignment, which surprised many, is suspected to be linked to his investigation into irregularities in government contracts, raising concerns about attempts to marginalize him.
