Many Muslims from Senegal’s Layene Sufi brotherhood gathered in Dakar’s Yoff neighborhood to celebrate Mawlid, the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.

Founded in 1884 by Seydina Limamou Laye, this brotherhood is known for promoting equality and is the smallest Sufi group.

Celebrants wore white robes symbolizing purity, and the festivities included prayers, melodic chants, and communal singing, reflecting values of peace and spiritual unity.

The event in Yoff is significant, but Mawlid is celebrated nationwide, with the largest celebration held in Tivaouane.
