A court in Dar es Salaam has banned live media coverage of Tundu Lissu’s treason trial to protect the identities of civilian witnesses.
Lissu, a prominent opposition leader and head of the CHADEMA party, faces potential death penalty charges for allegedly inciting disruptions during the upcoming elections. He criticized the restriction, stating it undermines justice and transparency.
The CHADEMA party has been disqualified from the elections, raising concerns about human rights in Tanzania, as noted in a recent U.S. State Department report highlighting a decline in rights and government misconduct.
