Joseph Kabila, the Former President, Has Returned to the DRC, Ending His Political Exile

M23 rebels welcome ex-President Joseph Kabila to Goma, with leaders praising his return and urging other exiled Congolese politicians to come back.

The March 23 Movement (M23) announced that former President Joseph Kabila arrived in Goma, North Kivu Province.

M23 spokesperson Lawrence Kingston Kanyuka confirmed his arrival and wished him a pleasant stay. Lt Col Willy Ngoma, an M23 military spokesperson, called Kabila a respected former leader.

Corneille Nangaa Yobeluo, who leads M23 and the Congo River Alliance, welcomed Kabila back, calling it the right decision. He praised Goma as a safe place for political figures and encouraged other Congolese leaders in exile to return to the city.
