The World Customs Organization (WCO), supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), held a national workshop on Rules of Origin from June 18 to 20, 2025, in Banjul, Gambia.
This event was part of a partnership involving the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment (MOTIE).
The workshop focused on helping African Customs manage preferential Rules of Origin related to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Attended by 34 participants from GRA, MOTIE, and the private sector, the workshop included presentations from WCO Expert Trainers from Japan and Botswana.
Topics covered included determining the origin and the necessary procedures for applying preferential tariff treatment.
The workshop aimed to enhance understanding and collaboration among stakeholders to effectively implement the AfCFTA Rules of Origin, highlighting the importance of capacity-building in realizing the benefits of the AfCFTA.
