On Saturday evening, twelve outstanding Gambian journalists were honored in a splendid ceremony at the esteemed Union Awards at the luxurious Sun Beach Hotel in Bakau.

The event gathered media professionals, government officials, and distinguished guests to celebrate these journalists’ significant contributions to the industry through their exemplary work across various reporting categories.

The distinguished winners, recognized for their dedication and expertise, included Yankuba Jallow, Mariam Sankanu, Maimuna Bah, Alieu Ceesay, Nyima Sillah, Momodou S. Jallow, Momodou Lamin Choi, Mam Nabou Kah, and Muhammed Lamin Drammeh.

Their award-winning reports and articles addressed crucial topics such as Investigative Reporting, Business, Migration and Trafficking, Health, Security, Agriculture, Sports, Tourism, Arts and Culture, Women’s Issues, and Children’s Concerns. These journalists have garnered acclaim for their skill in highlighting important issues, often navigating challenging environments to deliver accurate and impactful information to the public.

During the ceremony, Muhammed S. Bah, President of the Gambia Press Union (GPU), underscored the vital role of quality journalism in shaping public opinion and holding authorities accountable. “This evening, we celebrate not only the journalists but also the transformative power of storytelling that influences lives, drives change and promotes accountability,” he stated.

The award recipients expressed profound gratitude for the recognition, reaffirming their dedication to upholding high standards in their reporting. Their work addresses critical societal issues, inspiring and challenging the public and policymakers.

The event honored excellence in journalism while fostering connections within the media community. The evening included keynote speeches, cultural performances, and networking opportunities, creating a memorable experience for all attendees.
