In a surprising turn of events, three Gambian men, part of the first group of migrant workers sent to Spain under a new labour agreement between The Gambia and the Spanish Kingdom, have vanished. The Gambian Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE) shared the news after receiving word from AFRUCAT, a Spanish company, through the Spanish Embassy in Dakar.
The trio, Foday Marega, Seedia Kebbah, both from Jahally village, and Demba Keita from Sare Birom Kunda village have not shown up for work since Monday, July 28, 2025. They also missed their scheduled appointments to process their Work and Residence Permits. The ministry was notified of their disappearance on July 27, 2025.
Here are the details of the missing workers:
- Foday Marega, Jahally village, Passport No: PC1933111
- Seedia Kebbah, Jahally village, Passport No: PC223049
- Demba Keita, Sare Birom Kunda village, Passport No: PC284649
MOTIE is calling on the three men to return to the farm immediately and complete their permit processing. The ministry also urged the public, especially those hoping to benefit from this labour program in the future, to stick to the terms of the agreement. This deal is seen as a vital opportunity for Gambians to work abroad legally, and officials are keen to ensure its success for all involved.
