Ethiopia has opened the Grand Renaissance Dam, Africa’s largest, with a cost of nearly $5 billion.
The dam will generate over 5,000 megawatts of electricity, doubling the country’s power capacity, and aims to boost the economy and support the development of electric vehicles.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized the project’s significance for African strength and potential electricity sales to neighboring nations.
However, Egypt has concerns about the dam’s impact on its Nile water supply, although Abiy assured that Ethiopia will share the benefits responsibly.
