President Adama Barrow, through a message from the National People’s Party (NPP), has extended congratulations to the United Democratic Party (UDP) following their victory in the recent Massembeh Ward by-election.

In a statement, President Barrow, who also holds the positions of NPP Secretary General and Party Leader, praised the UDP for successfully retaining their councillorship seat in the recent by-election. He acknowledged the trust and confidence that the people of Massembeh Ward have placed in the UDP, describing it as a testament to the party’s effective leadership.

The President reinforced the NPP’s steadfast commitment to enhancing political pluralism in The Gambia, emphasizing the essential role of a vibrant multi-party democracy in fostering national growth and development. He commended the peaceful and transparent nature of the by-election, which he noted as a significant advancement in consolidating democratic processes within the country.

“We are dedicated to building Gambia that embodies the principles of the rule of law, fundamental human rights, and civil liberties. The NPP remains determined to ensure that every citizen can enjoy these basic rights free from obstruction,” he stated.

Additionally, the President took the opportunity to commend the residents of Massembeh Ward, particularly the NPP’s candidate, his family, and supporters, for their disciplined and active engagement in the electoral process. He referred to their participation as a valuable lesson in democracy.

He desired continued collaboration with the UDP and all political parties, reinforcing the goal of constructing a peaceful, prosperous, and inclusive Gambia.
