Police have called in additional staff members from the Central Bank of The Gambia as part of an ongoing investigation into the arrest of a man allegedly connected to the institution. This individual was found in possession of $57,800 and D370,000 in cash.

The suspect was apprehended last week at the Jenoi checkpoint by officers from The Gambia Drug Law Enforcement Agency. His arrest follows increasing security concerns after an armed robbery at the Access Bank branch in Brusubi, during which an undisclosed amount of money was stolen.

In a statement, the Gambia Police Force confirmed that they had invited several Central Bank officials to aid the investigation. The suspect, who was believed to be a Central Bank staff member, was detained last week as authorities worked to determine the source and intended use of the seized funds.

“Our officers intercepted an individual who is alleged to be an employee of the Central Bank at the Jenoi checkpoint. The suspect was found in possession of $57,800 and D370,000 in cash. An investigation is currently underway to trace the origins and intended use of these funds,” the police stated.

Authorities are urging the public to provide any information that could assist the investigation. Citizens are encouraged to call 9968885 or visit the nearest police station.
