Babucarr Bouy, the Minister of Public Services, informed lawmakers that the government has recovered only 2 million Dalasi out of about 23.9 million Dalasi paid to 1,430 missing government employees during an audit.

Payments were made through 16 banks, with many funds withdrawn before the recovery directive. The ministry faces challenges in recouping the funds due to bank requirements for customer consent or court orders and is seeking legal assistance to address these issues.

Although the employees were officially appointed, they cannot be located, and the ministry plans to publish their names and impose repayment deadlines.

Additionally, they are working to improve attendance reporting and develop an electronic system for real-time staff tracking.
