The Mayor of Banjul City Council, Rohey Malick Lowe, acknowledged mistakes in managing public funds during her testimony before the Local Government Commission of Inquiry.
She admitted that payments made through Deputy Public Relations Officer Fatou Mbenga did not adhere to proper spending and procurement rules and were conducted under her direction.
Regarding assistance for flood victims, she confirmed that all fund requests went through the CEO, with Mbenga handling the payments, but recognized that the procedures were incorrect.
The Mayor claimed that all actions were transparent, and documentation was handled properly, although she was uncertain about specific details regarding flood victims and payments.
She also recognized an error involving a payment of thirty thousand dalasis for media coverage and stressed the need for improved guidance and accountability in her office.
