Talib Ahmed Bensouda, Mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council, has withdrawn his candidacy for the UDP flagbearer for the 2026 presidential election and resigned as the party’s National Organising Secretary.

His decision followed a discussion with Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, who plans to run for the position.

Bensouda highlighted the need for ethical political practices and urged Gambians to focus on national growth and unity, amid internal conflicts within the UDP between rival factions.
