Human rights activists Madi Jobarteh, Baboucarr Nyang, and Omar Camara have filed a petition with the Clerk of the National Assembly regarding the ‘allocation of state lands to state and non-state officials, individuals, organizations, and businesses between 19 January 2017 and 31 December 2023.
In a statement shared with The Standard, the petitioners respectfully request that the Public Petitions Committee consider their petition and initiate an inquiry to ensure that these land allocations adhere to the rule of law and ethical standards. By submitting this petition, they demonstrate their unwavering commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in public affairs and the management of public resources. They trust the Public Petitions Committee will find their petition suitable and permissible.
Following the petition’s submission, the petitioners plan to host a press conference at noon at the TANGO headquarters in Fajara. During the meeting, they will provide further details to the public. They emphasize that achieving a better Gambia hinge on citizens actively upholding good governance, human rights, and the rule of law within public institutions and among officials. They call on all citizens to engage in legal, democratic, and peaceful methods to play an active role in the governance and advancement of our beloved country.
