Louis Prom from the Augustus Prom firm testified to the National Assembly Committee on August 4th about pressure from the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC) and the former Attorney General to hand over control of the Ocean Bay and Sun Beach hotels. Below are issues in his testimony:
SSHFC filed a misleading motion during the Janneh Commission, which Prom’s firm opposed. The former Attorney General instructed Prom’s firm not to contest SSHFC’s demands.
At a meeting at the Ministry of Justice, there was an urgent need for swift action regarding the management of former President Yahya Jammeh’s assets. Although there was no initial discussion on fees, the Attorney General’s Chambers later approved their proposal.
SSHFC sought management of the hotels but was unable to terminate existing leases due to ongoing court issues and later sought new management contracts.
The lease dispute created significant pressure, with SSHFC submitting a motion to force the transfer of the hotels, which was contested by the receiver’s legal team.
The Janneh Commission rejected SSHFC’s motion due to the active High Court matter, resulting in disappointment for the former Attorney General when the transfer did not occur.
