Kanifing Magistrate Court Grants Bail to 23 Protesters

On August 27, 2025, twenty-three protesters opposing PURA’s mobile internet cost increase were granted D50,000 bail each by Magistrate Thomas Touray, with a hearing scheduled for September 11, while twenty-one others arrested for obstructing police were released.

On August 27, 2025, Magistrate Thomas Touray granted bail to twenty-three protesters arrested for demonstrating against the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) due to a new rule that raised mobile internet costs.

The protesters, charged with “Control of Procession,” pleaded not guilty and were each given bail of D50,000, with conditions to avoid unlawful gatherings.

The case is scheduled for a hearing on September 11, 2025. Additionally, twenty-one others were arrested for obstructing police on August 25 but were later released.
