The Gambia Press Union (GPU) and the West Africa Coastal Areas Resilience Investment Project 2 (WACAResIP 2) jointly organized a five-day training session for 25 journalists to raise public awareness of environmental issues.

The training took place at Halahin Eco Lodge in Kartong and focused on reporting on climate change, coastal erosion, floods, and waste management. This initiative is part of the WACA Gambia Project (2023–2027), funded by a $45 million World Bank grant.

Isatou Keita, GPU president, emphasized the need for transparent reporting on environmental issues, while Ebrima Colley from MECCNAR stressed that accurate reporting can save lives during disasters.

The training also offered mentorship and grants for in-depth reporting. Aisha Davies-Ann from the Ministry of Information highlighted the importance of informed media in the face of increasing environmental challenges.

The project aims to reduce flood risks through infrastructure improvements and promote sustainable community resilience.
