Following President Trump’s declaration of a 50% tariff on Indian products, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that he would not jeopardize the interests of India’s agricultural industry, which encompasses farmers, livestock owners, and fishermen.

India was already subject to a 25% tax on its exports due to incomplete trade discussions with the US. The new tariff, set to take effect on August 28, aims to penalize India for importing Russian oil.

Despite five rounds of trade negotiations, no consensus has been reached, raising concerns about the future of the strategic partnership between the US and India.
