Hon. Halifa Sallah, leader of PDOIS, on July 16, criticized the National Assembly for rejecting the 2024 draft constitution, saying they had missed a key opportunity for leadership and public involvement in the constitutional review process.
He argued that the Assembly should have initiated its consultation to address the executive’s failure to engage the public.
Sallah emphasized that the second reading was the right time to raise concerns and that moving the bill to committee would have allowed for public participation.
He advocated for a collaborative approach to constitution-making, emphasizing its importance in nation-building and the necessity of a national consensus on its content.
