Dr. Mamadou Tangara, The Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has resigned to take on the position of the African Union Commission’s Special Representative in Mali and the Sahel, leading the AU’s MISAHEL office.
His resignation was accepted by President Adama Barrow, who thanked him for his service to the country. Tangara has served since 2018 and was a key diplomat for the country.
His last official duty was accompanying the Vice President during a state visit to Mauritania, where The Gambia and Mauritania signed 14 agreements, including an extradition treaty.
Tangara’s departure marks a significant change for the Barrow administration amid ongoing regional challenges.
