Gambian soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Battalion, Farafenni Barracks, have apprehended two individuals suspected of stealing motorcycles near the Senegal border. The suspects have been transferred to the Gambia Police Force for further investigation and potential charges.

On Sunday, 28 July 2024, troops of the Gambia Armed Forces at the 2 Infantry Battalion, Farafenni Barracks, intercepted two individuals transporting various motorcycle parts at a checkpoint between Posteh Kerr Ali and Posteh Kerr Ayib near the Gambia—Senegal border. It was revealed that the criminals’ method involved dismantling stolen motorcycles or other valuable items, dividing the parts among themselves, and then reassembling the stolen goods for resale. Lieutenant Colonel Ebrima I Krubally, the Commanding Officer of the 2nd Infantry Battalion, handed over the apprehended individuals to the Gambia Police Force for further action, the army stated.

The incidence of theft has increased in The Gambia in recent years, coinciding with the country’s transition to democracy.
