Germany-based Gambian migration activist Yahya Sonko has cautioned Gambians residing in Germany to remain vigilant regarding legal matters considering the far-right Alternative for Germany’s (AfD) distribution of fraudulent flight tickets intended for deportation.

The AfD has handed out approximately 30,000 counterfeit tickets, prompting widespread condemnation and an ongoing criminal investigation. With the party’s popularity surging to 19%, it has introduced proposals to tighten nationality regulations and process asylum applications outside of Germany.

As anti-migrant rhetoric intensifies, Sonko stresses the importance of immigrants adhering to the law to avoid exacerbating racist narratives and facing more stringent policies. He encourages Gambians to seek the advice of legal experts, maintain a positive presence within their communities, and stay informed about political developments, particularly the upcoming elections that could affect immigration policies.
