Gambian Embassy In Brussels Hosts Maiden West Africa Day

The Gambian Embassy in Brussels hosted the inaugural West African Ambassador’s Cultural Day, showcasing the region’s diversity through music, dance, and cuisine while emphasizing unity and cultural exchange.

On Sunday, July 28, the Gambian Embassy in Brussels, Belgium, organized the inaugural West African Ambassador’s Cultural Day in the embassy’s gardens. The event was well-attended by esteemed dignitaries, including numerous African Ambassadors in Belgium and other distinguished guests. The host and the current Chair of the West African Ambassadors emphasized a powerful message of solidarity and unity in their speeches.

The Ambassador of The Gambia to Brussels, Pa Musa Jobarteh, emphasized the significant role of the embassy in fostering unity and promoting cultural exchange. He warmly welcomed participants to the embassy grounds and underlined the importance of hosting such an esteemed event. He stressed the unification of the West African Community under one roof to celebrate their shared history and culture. “Through this cultural day, we aim to showcase our rich heritage, traditions, unity, strength, and the collective aspirations of our region and peoples. Each culture represented here will highlight uniqueness, contributing to our collective identity. I firmly believe that events like this are instrumental in strengthening our bonds and enriching our mutual understanding,” emphasized Ambassador Jobarteh.

The Burkinabé Ambassador, who currently holds the rotating Chair of the West African Ambassadors in Belgium, was warmly praised by The Gambia Embassy for being an excellent host for this inaugural event. Ambassador Bonkoungou emphasized the importance of fostering solidarity, sharing enjoyable moments, and showcasing the cultural richness of our countries, united by history and geography.

The countries of West Africa proudly presented their distinctive cultural performances, showcasing the region’s rich diversity. The celebration of culture event included a traditional musical performance by groups from Burkina Faso and Guinea Bissau, followed by a lively array of cultural music from all West African countries, complemented by a delightful presentation of West African cuisine.
