Gambia Wins 12 Medals at the African School Games

The Gambia shone at the African School Games in Algeria, with 18 of 26 athletes winning 12 medals, including gold in basketball 3×3 and athletics, supported by the Gambia National Olympic Committee and Ministry of Sports, highlighting the nation’s rising sports talent.

The Gambia celebrated significant accomplishments at the African School Games, held in Algeria, beginning on July 26th. Out of 26 athletes, 18 won medals across six different sports, accumulating a total of 12 medals.

The Gambia National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports facilitated their participation.

Highlights included

In Basketball 3×3, Gambia’s team secured a gold medal.

In Beach Volleyball, both Gambia’s boys’ and girls’ teams celebrated a significant achievement with silver medals.

In Wrestling, Gambia’s Muhammed Faal and Ousman Sakho each took home bronze medals.

In Athletics, Gambia’s Buba Bayo clinched gold in the boys’ 100m event, while several other athletes achieved bronze and silver medals in various events, including a gold medal in the men’s medley relay.

In Swimming and Judo, Gambian competitors demonstrated outstanding commitment, even though they did not win any medals.

This accomplishment, recognized beyond the borders of The Gambia, brings new challenges for the development of sports in the nation.
